Leather Pants Can Mean High Style And Protection
Who wears leather pants and why? The answer may just be someone who loves high fashion and who has the legs and hips that snug leathers will show off to great effect, or the reason may be more practical. After all the original leather pants were made because hides are tough and last a long time. They also give a lot of protection to the lower half of the body.

High fashion leather pants don't have much to do with protection, since many of them seem intent on encouraging someone to want to take them off! Soft leathers not only cling to curves and look great, they also smell like leather and many people find this earthy natural scent to be attractive or even erotic. Consider how much the smell of leather upholstery adds to that "new car" feeling, so much so that some dealers add a spray to
simulate it.

A much more practical reason to wear sturdy pants and other leathers is for protection. Cowboys in the old west and to this day wear a kind of partial pants called chaps to protect from brush and burrs and other hazards. Native peoples used leather to make pants and other clothing as a matter of course even when cloth was available for the same reason.

A common and practical reason to wear leather pants is for protection when riding motorcycles. Pants and leather jackets are almost universal because someone on a bike is always vulnerable to spills and contact with pavement can really tear up the skin. Wearing leather helps to greatly reduce the chances of getting "road rash" which is ugly, can scar, and causes a lot of pain.

Those who ride motorcycles or who are considering getting one really should invest in leather protective gear. It's not just useful as protection; it can still be very fashionable and look great. Modern makers of leather pants care about style as
much as about the safety issue and make great garments for women and for men as well.

Shops that sell two wheelers usually will also sell leather clothing and all other protective items such as helmets and goggles and gloves. If they don't sell the items themselves, most will have favorite leather shops to recommend. You can also find used leathers at a lot less money in thrift shops and in online auctions. Online, there are also discount sellers of brand new leathers.
